Iris Reuther, graduated from Hochschule für Architektur und Bauwesen in Weimar (now Bauhaus University), completed her doctorate there and was a research assistant at the Institute for Urban Planning and Architecture at the Bauakademie in Berlin from 1987-1990.
From 1992-2013 she worked as a freelance architect with her office for urban projects in Leipzig (main areas of work: conceptual urban planning, integrated urban development, urban research and process support).
2004-2013 she held the professorship for urban and regional planning at the University of Kassel. She has published on regiopolises, conceptual planning and brownfield projects, among other topics.
Since 2013, she has been Senate Building Director of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen and heads the Department of Building and Urban Development at the Senator for Climate Protection, Environment, Mobility, Urban Development and Housing. As Senate Building Director, Iris Reuther represents the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen in the Building and Transport Committee of the German Association of Cities.
